What is Funding Futures?

About LuMind RDS Foundation

Funding Futures began as Funding Futures Chicago, an annual fundraising event hosted by a group of dedicated families and professionals in the Chicagoland area, supporting the cognition research efforts of the LuMind RDS Foundation.

In prior years, the event has taken place in October, which is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. This year, we have expanded our reach to include New York City. The first annual Funding Futures NYC will take place in September.

Beyond supporting this ground-breaking research to impact the future, the participants support each other in their current efforts to help their loved ones with Down syndrome be all that they can be, and to bring more Down syndrome awareness to their communities.
In the past 30 years, there has been outstanding progress in increasing the life span of people with Down syndrome.  The mission of the LuMind Foundation is to provide these now longer lives with more opportunities and greater independence.

LuMind Foundation was established in 2004 as DSRTF to stimulate biomedical research that will accelerate the development of treatments to significantly improve cognition, including memory, learning and speech.  The founders of the LuMind Foundation know there is a future in the knowledge unlocked by the mapping of our DNA.

The goals of research are:
  • Participate more actively in school
  • Lead more active and independent lives
  • Avoid the early onset of Alzheimer's disease

Research is currently being conducted Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University, University of California, San Diego, University of Arizona, and University of Texas - Austin.
